Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) has concluded a long-term contract with compatriot Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co for a new wood-chip carrier.
The new wood-chip carrier will be built by Japanese shipbuilder Oshima Shipbuilding Co. and delivered in 2018, NYK said in a release.
Based on the vessel’s design characteristics, the ship will be able to load 4.3 million cubic feet of wood chips and will feature an advanced eco-design and electronically controlled engines.
NYK currently has long-term contracts with Hokuetsu Kishu Paper for six wood-chip carriers, which is the largest share of contracts that any shipping company has with Hokuetsu Kishu Paper.
According to NYK, this new contact will strengthen NYK’s transportation capacity further.
