Italian cruise ship builder Fincantieri has delivered today at its shipyard in Ancona the Viking Sea, the second of six cruise ships Viking Ocean Cruises has ordered from the yard.
Viking Sea, as its sister ships, is placed in the small cruise ship segment as it features a gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons. The ship has 465 cabins with accommodation for 930 passengers, with a total capacity of over 1,400 people, including the crew.
The company’s third ship of the class, the Viking Sky, was launched on Wednesday in Ancona. The cruise ship is scheduled for delivery in February 2017.
The first of the series, Viking Star, was built and delivered in spring 2015 from the shipyard in Marghera.
Viking Ocean Cruises and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri signed an agreement in November 2015 for the construction of two additional cruise ships, putting the overall orderbook to six ships.
The latest two new units are scheduled to become part of Viking’s fleet respectively in mid-2018 and at the end of 2020, Fincantieri said.
The Italian shipbuilder has 13 ships currently being designed or built in the group’s yards.
