Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has secured a €422m contract from Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) to build the sister ship of Seven Seas Explorer for its Regent Seven Seas Cruises (RSSC) brand.
Scheduled to be delivered in 2020, the Explorer-class vessel will follow RSSC's super-luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Explorer, which is under construction and is expected to be launched this July.
The new vessel is said to replicate most of the features and amenities that is incorporated into the latter ship.
Guests will be treated with gourmet dining, plush lounges and spacious accommodation.
The vessel will also include a rendition of the Regent Suite which is a new class of ultra-luxurious suite introduced in the Seven Seas Explorer.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises president and chief operating officer said: "We knew immediately from the overwhelmingly positive response we received from travel partners and past guests that Seven Seas Explorer was going to resonate with guests searching for the ultimate in luxury travel.
"The extraordinary demand generated by Seven Seas Explorer, including record-breaking booking volumes, reinforced our decision to expand our fleet with an additional ship that mirrors the same incredibly high standards of luxury."
The project will be financed by a syndicate of banks for export credit financing in connection with this order.
The order for the luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Explorer was placed in 2013 and will measure a length of 732ft, while its interior will feature assorted art collections to exude a sense of museum quality.
The vessel will have an array of amenities including restaurants, bars, fitness area, spa, pool, exterior areas, atrium, lobby, stair cases, corridors, shops, and suite.
