Chengxi wins 64K BCs

CSSC Chengxi Shipyard turns out to have signed a newbuilding contract to build a pair of 64,000-dwt bulkers on May 28 with Baoyuan International of China.
The handymax bulkers are based on 'Dolphin 64' design, developed by CSSC's ship design company, Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI). The design enhances energy efficiency and eco friendliness.
Comparing the 64,000-dwt bulker with existing 57,000-dwt, the 64,000-dwt increased its capacity by 8% and cargo capacity by 11.6%, while reduced energy consumption by 17%, which enables saving energy worth up to $1.03m annually.
Meanwhile, CSSC Chengxi contracted a total of 13 newbuildings year-to-date, including four plus four 64,000-dwt handymax bulkers with Hong Kong-based owner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport on April 8, two 38,800-dwt bulkers with CSSC (Hong Kong), a ship leasing company established by CSSC in June 2012, on May 17, etc.
