Maersk cuts 'Triple-E' price

Danish shipowner Maersk Line is said to have rearranged a bill by minus $100m for construction of 20 18,000 teu ultra large containerships ordered at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of Korea.

According to market players, the “Triple-E” newbuildings were ordered previously at around $190m apiece, however, the bill has been rearranged at $185m apiece after a negotiation for reduction with Daewoo.

An official from Maersk’s parent group, A.P. Moller-Maersk said the price cut that it secured a reduction on the value for the newbuildings which now come to a slight above $185m apiece, representing about $5m and a total of around $100m were reduced for a ship and overall 20 vessels, each.

Meanwhile, on May 6, China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) placed an order for five 18,400 teu containerships at Hyundai Heavy Industries, priced at a $140m apiece.
