Clarkson’s newbuilding price index has remained static during the last half of a year and its upturn might come in the very near future.
As Clarkson’s latest report says that there has been increasing inquiries for newbuildings but it may take some time to see if newbuilding prices will immediately starts to go upward.
Recently, China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Japan’s Japan Marine United, etc., have won orders for capesize and kamsarmax bulkers and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries of Korea has also inked an order for LR2 PC, showing good performances.
Meanwhile, amid prices of steel products increases steadily since last September, shipbuilders are desperate to raise newbuilding prices to expand margins, according to Clarkson.
